Grammatical Hoot

Well, that was funny. A coworker of mine just brought to my attention that the LCD display on the office copier "is literally gone." Of course, I have an image in my mind of a gaping hole in the face of the copier with electronic connectors and wires hanging loose.

She meant that it was lot working, of course.

Tired rant though it may be, what sloppy speakers we are.

I had the same mental image. I was wonderin why the hell someone would take the LCD display from a copier, for crying out loud!

have you noticed that people tend to say "literally" when they really mean "figuratively"?

Like, "I was so mad, my head LITERALLY popped off my shoulders!!"

Well, clearly your cranium is still attached to your neck and hasn't gone anywhere -- idjit.

Some people really get on my nerves!!
