Jeezus. What the fuck is the matter with me, suffering like I already do from hay fever? I mean, sure it's the most beautiful place to live and raise a family that I've ever lived,
unless you happen to suffer from fucking Hay Fever, I mean.

Verizon Wireless: Unlimited is 10GB a Month
Slingbox users begin to notice glass ceiling. The users over at Howard's Forums discuss the 10GB monthly data cap on Verizon's EV-DO National Access wireless broadband service. EVDOinfo users are also becoming aware of the caps. While both suggest Verizon Wireless has just started enforc..
10GB / mo. is pretty near impossible for me to hit with my Cingular GPRS service, but with something much more like DSL at 400-700mbps, I really don't think that it's going to take too long for subscribers to hit that limit.
Rate My [ NETWORK ] Rack
Rate My NETWORK DIAGRAM, actually. What a useful website for IT people wanting to see how others diagram their own networks! Nifty! (Now, I hope you weren't think of any
lewd or
lascivious websites when you read the title, above. You are filthy,

Vulnerability found in Microsoft Excel
Oh goodie...
A new vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Corp.'s Excel spreadsheet program, just a few days after the company fixed problems with several of its applications in its monthly patch distribution.
Microsoft's patch, while apparently available on their MS Live servers, isn't showing up when I go through the Microsoft Update web page, yet. But do be careful of opening up any unsolicited Excel documents (any Excel docs received over email, in fact, would be best to avoid) until you're sure you've gotten this patch.

HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!
Longest day of the year. Maybe it's time for a little Summer redecorating around here. Maybe a little rededication to jotting a quick note every now and then.
Let's not get too excited. One thing at a time, okay?
BTW, I thought
this recent podcast from
43Folders'
Merlin Mann was pretty funny once he got to the actual story about the book he was hired to write.

Two Cute Kids!
Google has launched their attack on Flickr with their new
Picasa Web Albums. Sure is easy to dump a lot of big photos, straight from Picasa, I tell you whut.
These are links to the pics I took the weekend of my parents' 40th Wedding Anniversary, last weekend. Some are good, some are less good. Go check 'em out. The order is all outta whack, but I do like how easily this moves from Picasa to the web.
GorillaMask.net Videos: Stephen Colbert asks Congressman Westmoreland about the 10 CommandmentsOhhh my goodness. Ohhhh my goodness! You have GOT to go and see this video. It is only a minute and seventeen seconds long, but BABY you gotta go see this video! Colbert's not even really the funny one, here, it's this empty-headed bible thumping legislator who's so funny!

InformationWeek Weblog: Let The UBS Trial Be A Warning To You[IT Geekery:]
This cover story from this week's InformationWeek magazine covers the danger of an "inside job": The accusation is that a disgruntled employee didn't get the raise/bonus he wanted, so he set a "logic bomb" (a piece of code set to do something malicious, probably destructive, when a given event does or doesn't happen) to destroy key files across their entire 200-office company.
Two points of focus that I take away from this article are, (1) the greatest dangers to an IT infrastructure still reside INSIDE the existing organization, and (2) UBS's practices and procedures were so lax at the time that, without having evidence obtained from the defendant's bedroom dresser, they wouldn't be able to adequately identify who it was that placed the destructive code on their servers in the first place! WTF?! If you're interested in IT you've got to go read that article!

Trainboard query, the second
Where is everyone at almost 8am on a Monday morning, anyway? Did everyone take off for summer vacation? I guess school's out for the summer, now. Is that it? I've got kids, but they're living off the land until they turn 12, so the school district's particular schedule doesn't affect them much. It's kind of an "Experiential" course of study, you know. It's what everyone's doing, these days,
;-)

Trainboard query
Is a public train really the best time and place to be tweezing your eyebrows? I bet the EMT's are going to have a great time plucking your tweezers from your eyeball after stopping the train (and all trains behind us) for an hour.
I don't think my blackberry battery will last that long.
I hope you're better with those tweezers than you look, Lady.

Current TV // Current Tech // Podding OutHave you ever watched "Current.TV"? I think I heard Google's got a stake in them, but it's like video storytelling/documentaries/Short Attention Span Theater. (If you've got DirecTV, it's on channel 366, FYI.) I kinda like it. They take stories/documentaries/short attention span thater from just about anyone. Which is pretty cool in its democratization of sharing the crap that's on TV. Used to be, I could only watch the crap an NBC executive thought I ought to watch, so now I've got a crack at watching the crap from anywhere in the world after it goes through Current.tv, first. Still, a pretty cool direction, cynical as I may play at.
Check it, Baby.
Intubate ANYWHERE, Now!
Whee! You know, ever since I started watching House MD and making up our own drinking game involving another shot everytime someone gets their trachea popped, I've been wondering what I would do if I ever needed to bypass the God's-Intended-Pathway-For-Air route. Now I know I need a new keychain! See? Non-Problem solved!

Gmail adds Reply by chat featureGmail has added a new "Reply by chat" feature to Gmail in another effort to even more tightly integrate Gmail and chat. If you're a Gmail user who has chat turned on (i.e., standard with chat), you...
Hay! Now isn't that clever! (though, like this author, I don't use Google's chat, but it's clever, nonetheless!)
