The Digital Story: My Most Popular Prosumer Camera: Canon S2 IS

Perhaps not surprisingly, I'm in the market for a new point/shoot camera. My old one is showing its age and is just fucking frustrating in so many ways! Maybe I get my nose too close to the pics, but the quality is just irritating; it's slow to write pics to the SD media; the shutter lag is crippling, as with all point/shoots of its day; and I guess a few other smaller things, too.

Anyway, I was vascillating between a higher-end prosumer point/shoot camera and a bottom-end DSLR camera. Ultimately, it came down to size/weight. (I bet this is about the only place you're going to find someone extoling Canon's Powershot S2 IS for its size!) I love carrying my camera with me everywhere. If I went to a Nikon D-50, though, I really couldn't do that. That was the one argument that I couldn't get away from. As Derrick Story quoted in one of his earlier podcasts, regarding which camera is the best camera for you: "The best camera for you is the one that you have with you to take pictures." Pretty simple! Pretty true!
