Let The UBS Trial Be A Warning To You

This cover story from this week's InformationWeek magazine covers the danger of an "inside job": The accusation is that a disgruntled employee didn't get the raise/bonus he wanted, so he set a "logic bomb" (a piece of code set to do something malicious, probably destructive, when a given event does or doesn't happen) to destroy key files across their entire 200-office company.
Two points of focus that I take away from this article are, (1) the greatest dangers to an IT infrastructure still reside INSIDE the existing organization, and (2) UBS's practices and procedures were so lax at the time that, without having evidence obtained from the defendant's bedroom dresser, they wouldn't be able to adequately identify who it was that placed the destructive code on their servers in the first place! WTF?! If you're interested in IT you've got to go read that article!
