Paint.net Rocks

I just think this is the coolest thing since Honda.  This metaphor may not fly very far, but it does to Photoshop what Honda did to Cadillac (if the Honda had been free).  For the day-to-day image editing that I do (resizing, scribbling, a little layering, I guess) my little Paint.net zips me around my tasks like a cute little Honda.

Grabbed this off their website
It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.
It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing.
A nice, manageable feature list that doesn't try to do too much.  Me diggy.
